Coverage & fee benchmarking

How far does your platformactually deliver?

We analyzed 100,000 points across the United States to map how far every major delivery platform will reach from a given operator — and what it charges to get there.

Median delivery reach and fee, by platform

Illustrative — shaped from Tastewise analysis of 100K US points.

The problem

Delivery radius and fee are set once and rarely revisited, yet they decide which operators a customer can even see. A radius that is two miles short in a dense metro quietly removes hundreds of merchants from the storefront.

The gap is invisible from the inside. You can measure your own coverage, but not what a customer sees when they open a competing app at the same address — which is exactly where the demand leaks.

How we measure it

Collected at the source, at scale.

01

100K sampled points

A national grid of delivery addresses spanning dense urban cores, suburbs and rural edges — not just the metros where coverage is easy.

02

Every major platform, same address

At each point we capture which platforms serve it, which operators they surface, the delivery distance and the fee actually quoted at checkout.

03

Normalized for comparison

Results are normalized by market density and basket size, so a rural fee is never compared against an urban one.

What you get

The gap, ranked — with the evidence attached.

  • Your median and tail delivery distance, benchmarked against the market at the same addresses
  • Fee curves by distance band, showing where you are priced above or below the market
  • A ranked list of ZIPs where your radius costs you visible supply
  • Operator-level coverage gaps — merchants a competitor surfaces at an address and you don't

Where teams use it

Four decisions this changes.

Set radius by evidence, not habit

Find the specific markets where extending reach by a mile adds real, visible supply — and the ones where it only adds late orders.

Price the fee curve against the market

See the distance bands where your fee is out of step, and what the rest of the market charges at that same distance.

Defend a market entry

Quantify coverage in a metro before launch, so the expansion case rests on measured supply rather than an estimate.

Find the demand you never see

Addresses where customers have options on other apps and none on yours never generate a search you can measure. This finds them.

Delivery Distance Finder — common questions

How often is the data refreshed?

Coverage is re-sampled on a recurring cycle, so radius and fee changes show up as movement over time rather than a single snapshot.

Can we see individual operators?

Yes. Analysis runs down to the operator level, so you can see exactly which merchants a competitor surfaces at an address where you show nothing.

Which markets are covered?

The 100K-point grid covers the United States. Coverage for other regions is scoped per engagement.
